Brief Introduction

It is common knowledge that manual parking lots have a number of drawbacks. Firstly, there is a high risk that automobile parts are stolen. Secondly, it may take inexperienced drivers a long time to drive the car into a narrow slot, which may even sometimes cause localized traffic jams). In contrast, it may be very time-consuming for the driver to find an empty slot in a vast parking lot and find his car later on. Moreover, it is very hard to curb the exhaust gases and noise emitted by the cars operating in the lot. Finally, the problem concerned by a majority of building investors is that a manual parking space occupies a great deal of area ( which is, on average, 25m2/slot including the entrance)

Luckily, an automatic parking system can solve all of the above-mentioned ills. A multi-storey parking system is a structure equipped with  a lifting system which transports the car from the ground to the parking slot above the ground (as for aboveground systems) or underground (as for underground systems) automatically. After the car is driven into the cabin, the PLC will automatically moves it to the chosen parking slot; the driver does not have to do anything except for pressing the button showing the number of the car (or receiving a magnetic card from the system). When the car needs to be taken out of the lot, it is again automatically moved to a designated area, from where the driver receives the car and drives it out. In case of a narrow area, with the support of a 3600 turn table and positioning rollers, an inexperienced driver can easily drives the car into the cabin. If any trouble such as a break-in or a door opening unwantedly arises, it will be reported immediately to the supervision center.

As the car is moved in and out of the system by an automatic pallet, no more air pollution due to gases exhausted from the operation of cars is caused and the danger of fire and explosion is minimized. In a worst case of a fire, there is almost no possibility of death because there are not any drivers in the lot.

As mentioned earlier, an automatic parking system can be installed underground or aboveground, depending on the area and space of the land, entrance and exit and use purpose.

The alarmingly increase in traffic is confronting big cities such as Hanoi and Hochiminh with a crisis of parking lots. The existing parking lots can satisfy only about 30% of the need and the rest of 70% is now met by illegal parking spaces. This is the reason why a big part of many streets has been occupied and traffic jams have worsened.

With all the above analysis, a smart automatic car park is considered an urgent and effective solution now.

Benefits of a car automatic parking system:

1. Land saving:

When land budget is limited and there is no possibility to appropriate an area for parking, the adoption of an automatic parking system is an optimal choice.

An automatic parking system enables the investor to save a remarkable area of land while ensuring a required parking capacity. In fact, on the same area of land, the number of cars that can be parked in an automatic parking system can double or even be multiplied by 20 in comparison with a conventional manual one.

2. Captial saving:

Obviously, the increase in the number of cars parked without increasing the land area helps to save the money for land purchase.

Moreover, when cars are parked automatically, the construction area will decline significantly, resulting in a reduction in construction cost.

3. Construction support:

In an area having weak sold structure, the construction of a large and deep basement in order to have enough space for a manual parking space is very challenging and costly. An automatic parking system can help to reduce the depth of the basement, therefore saving time and money.

4. Energy saving:

The driver does not have to drive around the parking lot to find one empty slot to park his car and around the lot again to get out, which clearly saves a lot of fuel.

5. Emission reduction:

It is widely known that a lot of toxic gases such as C02, CH4 and N20 are emitted from the car when it is being operated. The quantity of these emissions can be sharply reduced because cars are not operated when they are in the parking lot.

6. Health protection:

Understandably, parking lots which are often covered may become very stuffy, accumulating a lot of toxic gases if they are not properly ventilated, posing health risks to drivers and parking lot attendants. Fortunately, an automatic parking system can effectively solve this problem.

1- Puzzle type – Easy parking

This types has been installed very popularly outdoors in streets. Thanks to its small size (accommodating from 10-30 cars), it is very mobile and convenient; a car can be driven in and out very simply and quickly. Moreover, it is very suitable for small buildings which have only one basement for parking.  A two-story structure can be installed in the already built basement to double the number of cars parked or a three-story structure with one PIT below can be installed to tripled the number of cars with little impact on the existing design of the building, saving construction cost. The only problem is that an entrance to the car slot is still needed.

2.- Mini Rotary Type – Family parking

This is the designed system where an automobile is put in the cage which rotates up and down as well as right and left until the automobile is parked.

It is easily constructed in a small area (30m2). It is scarcely out of order as it is a simple circular rotating type. It is also very mobile; it can be disassembled easily and moved to another place.

This structure is not recommended for medium-and-big-size cars.

3- Cycle Parking

This system is usually installed underground, therefore being suitable for narrow ground. Its lift speed is 20-40m/minute and its horizontal movement speed is 20-30 m/minute. The optimal maximum number of cars that it can accommodate ranges from 6 to 38. It can be operated simply with a touch screen.

This system is especially recommended for buildings with a small area available for parking, located on a land area in a rectangular shape.

4- Multi-Circulation type – Optima parking

Because this type of parking has 8 times more efficient use of space than the nonmechanical parking type, relatively small underground space can be used to the maximum. The newest technology will make it possible to construct up to 6 levels. The operation is very easy with the adoption of a touch screen.

This system is especially recommended for buildings with a small area available for parking, located on a land area in a square shape.

5- Sky parking System – Speedy parking

This is a multi-story structure, which can stand alone or inside a building. 70 cars can be parked in an area of 7.3 m x 6.4 m = 46.7 m2 with a corresponding height of the tower of 75m, 35 stories or  3,6 m x 17 m = 61.2 m2 vertically.

A standard design has 2 symmetric columns. However, depending on the land area, the number of columns can be increased to 3- 4 – 5 – 6 to raise the capacity of the system. However, the average time needed to put a car in and take it out is proportional to the capacity.

The optimal capacity is 70 cars.

– The application of high-speed vector-controled elevating system makes it possible to put it and take out automobiles rapidly. Its standard speed is 90m/minute and maximum is  140m/ minute. The maximum time needed to take a car out of a 60-slot system is 1.5 minutes (On average the figure is 1 car/minute)

– Each story has a height of 1.61m for high efficiency of using space. Therefore, it is ideal to save an narrow land area behind or beside a skyscraper.

– Despite its cost, it operates very smoothly and safely. The operation is simple with the support of a touch screen.

– It can be constructed quickly and movable when necessary.

6- Car Lifts

In a car lift, the car is driven into the cabin and then it is lifted to a certain floor. It is now driven out of the car lift and to the selected slot.

Pros and cons of a car lift:

– it helps to save land area for transfloor entrance while the area for cars to move within one floor stays the same.
